The social network wants to make sure you know it's paying attention to its mobile apps.Facebook really wants people to know that it's got its mind on mobile.
The company put out a blog post today detailing the work of its product teams since its mobile first transformation. Wall Street has been highly critical of Facebook in the past for not paying attention to mobile, which is where many users have moved.   Read more »

(Reuters) - Spotify is in the middle of a $100 million financing round that could value the music streaming company at just over $3 billion, the Wall Street Journal reported citing sources.
The Journal said Spotify would raise the fresh capital from multiple investors including Goldman Sachs. The WSJ report did not name any other investors.   Read more »

After being re-elected as President of the United States, Barack Obama tweeted a victory tweet-which has quickly become the most-retweeted tweet in Twitter's history, according to Mediabistro. The tweet that writes "Four more years."-accompanied by a photograph of Obama embracing his wife-set a record just 22 minutes after it was posted. Currently, the second most-retweeted tweet was also by Obama that read "This happened because of you", which garnered over 213,000 retweets. Previously, the most retweeted tweet of all time was posted by celebrity Justin Beiber-a tweet that read "RIP Avalanna. i love you".   Read more »

Some 16 million people in the UK lack basic online skills, a survey suggests. The report, conducted by consultancy firm Booz & Company, defines basic skills as using a search engine, sending and receiving emails, completing online applications and accessing information online. Go ON UK, a charity chaired by the UK digital champion Martha Lane Fox, commissioned the report. The organisation aims to do more to improve digital literacy in the UK. Plans to offer UK-based firms shorter internet domain names backed by added security features have been proposed. The scheme would give businesses the chance to register www.name.uk as their web address. It would run alongside the current www.name.co.uk service.Applicants would have to prove they had a UK presence and pay a higher fee. A three-month consultation is under way. Some companies may oppose the move on the grounds they already face having to buy other new net addresses. Icann (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) is creating hundreds of other top-level domains as part of a separate expansion set to create addresses ending in .home, .shop and .play.   Read more »

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Amazon.com Inc is testing a new monthly option for its popular Prime video-streaming service as the world's largest Internet retailer steps up competition with Netflix Inc. Prime typically costs $79 a year in the United States for free two-day shipping, free video streaming and access to Amazon's Kindle e-book lending library. The company is now offering the service for $7.99 a month on its website, which works out to $95.88 a year, but at that rate it can be purchased strictly on a month-to-month basis.   Read more »

Dean Sparks is a 49-year-old farmer near Binghamton, N.Y., who for decades has relied on wholesale distributors to buy his organic eggs, milk, and cheese and sell it to stores and restaurants around the East Coast. In early April, he started experimenting with online food wholesaler FarmersWeb to sell to chefs and shop owners directly. He's since landed about a dozen new clients via the site and relishes its simplicity. “With FarmersWeb, selling is a 15-minute process without hours of paperwork,” says Sparks. “For a small business, time can be more valuable than money.
